The Swiss owners of the splendid Podere Abbadia took great care in restoring the old farmhouse next to the Santa Maria Abbey, ensuring that they treated the property with the utmost respect. After buying the farm in 1996 Verena was joined by Robert Kengelbacher, and together they set about creating a new vine-growing and wine-producing farm. Robert had already gained valuable experience working with Nobile di Montepulciano wines. His first year’s production of Nobile Riserva, 1993, was recognised with the prestigious Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri award. He sold his farm, il Podere il Macchione, in 2009.
While Verena is busy looking after the administrative side of the farm, Robert takes personal care of the technical and production side.
